An annual fundraiser dedicated to celebrating contributions from members of the African Diaspora to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

 

In collaboration with the Franklin Institute, the Alumni Association for the museums's youth leadership program, Partnerships for Achieving  Careers and Technology and Science (PACTS), will host the 1st Annual Black History Challenge to raise funds for youth programming, initiatives, and scholarship.

This game show style contest will be hosted during a special monthly event at the Franklin Institute where museum admission is FREE for all visitors. It is a great opportunity to celebrate Black History, while supporting the future generations of leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Katherine Johnson

Who am I? >

Katherine Johnson was a mathematician and the African- American woman who performed the calculations that sent astronauts into orbit in the early 1960s and to the moon in 1969. 

Alexa Canady

Who am I? >

In 1981 Alexa Canady completed her residency at the University of Minnesota as the country's first female African-American neurosurgeon.

James West

Who am I? >

James E. West, is best known as the co-inventor of the foil-electret transducer, a device that is now the basis of sound transmission in most cell phones, hearing aids, professional microphones, and other acoustical equipment.
